Dear Friends and Allies,
As you may have noticed, we’ve changed our name from Free Mom Hugs Southern Ontario to Free Mom Hugs Canada, and here is why.
First and foremost, we are delighted to share that we are now federally incorporated! As a not-for-profit corporation under Canada’s Not-for-Profit Corporation Act, we are committed to serving our community with integrity and transparency. While we eagerly await charity registration approval, which will allow us to issue tax receipts, and apply for funding, our mission remains steadfast: to spread love, acceptance, and support throughout the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey of love, support, and advocacy across Canada. It is with great pleasure that we introduce ourselves as your active executive directors, Sandra and Mel. Together, with passion and dedication, we’re committed to our ongoing goal, to love and support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Our intent is to take this process slow and steady, ensuring success as we onboard committed provincial partners.
The refresh of our brand, with the assistance of our “behind the scenes guy,” features a bright new website showcasing the dedication and passion of our valued volunteers, an events section that will utilize an RSVP option for volunteers to sign-up, and an informative resource section that we are hoping to expand with your collaboration. We are also working on being able to offer you a full “shopping” experience by making available a variety of merchandise. A partnership we would also like to highlight is our Hug It Forward program. With your support, we provide FMHC apparel to those who have expressed a genuine need.
But wait, there’s more! We have launched a new Facebook Business page, and we are eager for you to join us there. By liking and following our page, you’ll stay updated on all our latest initiatives, events, and heartwarming stories. On our page, you will discover a link to our members group, where we have over 2.3K members! Here you can connect with like-minded individuals, share valuable advice, and participate in discussions that enrich both your life and the lives of others.
We are also embracing this vibrant new chapter with a fresh perspective, a dynamic new redesigned logo created by one of our own, Blake Babin, presenting a new look that truly embodies the spirit of our mission. Our logo emblem has a simple message that encompasses everything we do at our core. We embrace, We support, “We Hug”. Each hug symbolizes a moment of connection, understanding, and unconditional love, echoing our mission to provide a safe place where everyone feels loved and accepted for who they are. The transparency of the parental figure you will notice on our website, takes on the background everywhere it is featured. This signifies not only the transparency of our future outlook for the organization but also the openness and honesty we aim to present as executive directors.
We invite you to explore our events section. If you are interested in being a Hugger, respond to the RSVP when it is made available on the event. Then come out and join us. We have many members who not only participate in our Pride events in the city they reside, but who travel distances to join in other cities.
We have a small team that we are looking to expand, and want to encourage you to review our volunteer section on the website. Consider joining our dedicated team as we embark on this new era. We have a number of volunteer positions available, and if you think you can offer skills not listed, kindly submit a form with your suggestions.
